And so it begins...

With all of the energy gathering now behind the creation of the musical, it has been suggested it is time for some 'Calico Buffalo' bloggin'. Well, that's just what we're going to try. So, welcome. Welcome to 'Calico Buffalo Nation'. A blog in part about how, after what seemed to be the end of the road some ten years ago, we find ourselves hip deep in the development of a musical for the theater based on the book 'the Calico Buffalo' (www.calicobuffalo.com). But also about how the amazing journey, that began on an Ann Arbor breakfast table back in 1989, continues today. So join us. And if you're inclined to do so, bring your friends along. And thank you. Thank you for the past ten years of encouragement and support. Let's see how this shakes out!

    Its been over a year since this entry. Is the musical opening in July?

      Hello Kristin,
      As I suspect you've guessed, the blog has never really launched. All of Mr. Stapleton's efforts are being directed toward the creation of the musical at this time. The musical is not opening in July. It is in development. The third table read of the script was conducted in April. Based on notes from that read, the next draft of the play is coming together now. Was there something said, or did you read something that lead you to believe the play was ready to open? The development team is looking toward beginning the workshop phase in 2013.       Thanks for the update Paul. I didn't realize Mr. Stapleton didn't actually update this Blog himself :-(

      I was chatting to an agent in Austin recently who said Mr. Stapleton had retired from acting to focus on his play and it had been in the works for over a year now and was due to open in July. Maybe he meant July 2013 and I misunderstood.
      We'll keep waiting !!!

    The plan is that Mr. Stapleton will eventually be updating this blog himself. He's just got his hands full right now. Maybe next year.
    Oh,and he hasn't actually "retired" from acting. He just isn't actively auditioning while he's working on the Calico. He is a cast member of Tony Zavaleta's film, "The Bystander Theory",

    which wrapped in December of 2011 and is in post production now. Hoping for a release sometime in September. He is also cast in the feature film "Morning", which is scheduled to begin shooting late this year. Stay tuned!

    I can't wait to see Mr. Staplton as "Goon 1" in the film you linked to above! Thanks for the update!!! I use the Calico Buffalo book on a regular basis with a lot of underprivileged children so I know I'll be bringing them to see the musical when it opens! We'll keep checking for updates!
